Scrumptious Apple Pie

When I think of Fall, I think of apples and when I think of apples, I think of apple pie so why not kick off the new season with scrumptious apple pie!

I have never made apple pie before but I sure have had my fair share of apple pie. To be honest, I was really nervous to make apple pie because I feel there a few things that could go wrong like using the wrong apples (aren’t all apples created equal??) or making really ugly pie crust. These insecurities all vanished of course but were none-the-less valid concerns for me!

Nolan and I went to farmers market last week and bought the cutest, little apples from this sweet old couple and I couldn’t wait to dice them up and bake them into a warm, delicious pie. I got about 3lbs of Honey Crisp apples and they did just fine. Oh how I wish I had my own orchard. Think of all the delicious-ness that would come of it! I also got this ADORABLE pie pan from William Sonoma. It says “Baked With Love” on the bottom. Too cute!

Before I dive into the recipe part of this, I am SO glad I researched a few recipes and blog post beforehand. I realize I hardly had any of the tools to successfully make apple pie. Who knew you needed to slice your apples super thin and tiny or that having a pastry board is way more practical than a cutting board?? I have never made apple pie so I watched this video to show me how to slice my apples 🙂

Scrumptious Apple Pie Recipe

Scrumptious Apple Pie Recipe- i made this last thanksgiving and it was such a hit!!

  • Vodka Pie Crust
  • 6 Honey Crisp Apples
  • 1/2 Cup Unsalted Butter
  • 1/2 Cup Sugar
  • 1/2 Cup Brown Sugar
  • 1/4 Cup Water
  • 4 tbsp. Flour
  • 1 tbsp. Cornstarch
  • 1/2 teaspoon Cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon Nutmeg
  • 1/8 teaspoon Salt
  • egg wash

  1. Preheat the oven to 325*F
  2. Slice apples into thin slices
  3. Place bottom crust into greased pie pan and coat the top with egg wash
  4. In a small saucepan, melt butter then add in both sugars, water, flour, cornstarch, cinnamon, and nutmeg. Whisk together until fully incorporated (about 3 minutes)
  5. Add a layer of apples followed by your butter/sugar mixture. Alternate until you pie tin is full and your filling is gone
  6. Lay your top pie crust or lattice onto filling
  7. Coat your top crust with egg wash and sprinkle with sparkling sugar (I use Wilton White Sparkling Sugar)
  8. Bake for 35-45 minutes on the bottom rack. Keep an eye out on your crust. I aim for a nice soft brown color. If your crust starts to get too crusty, toss a kitchen towel on top of your pie to prevent burning
  9. Let cool for 15 minutes before serving
